Gambian superstar and founder of the Miss Africa America Beauty pageant shares her 2024 BET Awards experience

Multi-talented Gambian female superstar Oumie Garba graced the 2024 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards ceremony in Los Angeles in the midst of A-List celebrities in the music industry. As a music star, dancer, and actress herself, the BET event marked an important aspect in her glowing careers, especially music. She captured all the major highlights of the ceremony.

Oumie shares her experience below —

“The BET Awards 2024, hosted by actress, author, and producer Taraji P. Henson was another incredible ceremony celebrating black excellence in entertainment.

“Megan Thee Stallion, the Hot Girl captain from Texas, set the stage on fire with an electrifying opening performance of “BOA” and “Where Them Girls At.”

“R&B icon Usher was honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ from industry legends Baby Face, L.A. Reid, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. The moment was celebrated through a star-studded musical tribute, including a medley of his hits performed by artists like Chlöe Bailey, Childish Gambino, KeKe Palmer, CoCo Jones, Tinashe, Latto, and more. The industry icon also took home the trophy for ‘Best Male R&B/Pop Artist’.” ~ Oumie recounted the major highlights at the BET 2024.

Meanwhile, her latest song ‘BoBess’ is a mixture of Mbalax and West African sound that originated in Senegal and The Gambia. The song has gained a lot of attention in Senegal and in The Gambia. Oumie plans to release more music in the near future and is currently working on her album, which she is set to release in the upcoming months.

She is planning a historic event in the city of Hollywood, California, together with her team.

Oumie’s Background

The West African star, Oumie Garba, was born in The Gambia, West Africa and moved to Sweden at the age of five (5), where she nurtured her interest in music. During her time at Fryshuset Kunskaps Center, a school of arts, Oumie studied music and graduated to pursue her dreams. One of Oumie’s first steps was to pursuing her dreams, was to relocate to the United States of America from Sweden. In her early days in the U.S, Oumie won Best New Independent Artist at the HAPA Awards, and she is currently working on a new EP.

Oumie has released a few new singles this year, including ‘Gambia’, ‘How Deep’, and ‘Bubble’. Right now, her song “Bubble” featuring E-Dee is getting amazing reviews and reactions in the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean. It has already amassed over one million views on Instagram.

Oumie is ambitious when it comes to music. She has the skills and expertise to change the game with her triple threat abilities, as she can sing/rap, dance, and act. She was recently spotted at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards where top celebrities, performers, industry icons, composers, and artists came together to celebrate music and media.

The Miss Africa America Beauty pageant was born out of her own pageantry experience as Miss Gambia USA 2015. The experience and exposure she gained from this opportunity motivated her to form her own pageant organisation to give young African ladies an opportunity to advance in life. It started as a local pageant (Miss Africa America) and developed into an international pageant for delegates all over the world, who come to compete for the ultimate Miss Africa America title.

With her background in music, pageantry, acting, and entrepreneurship, Oumie has established herself as influential personality every facet of entertainment. She has already accumulated over 2.5 million followers across all social media platforms.

Through her networking skills, she had the opportunity to meet with singer Akon of Senegalese origin, who one of biggest Africa American artists, who made his breakthrough in music with hit songs like ‘Mama Africa’ and more.
