Volley Ball Updates – Day 2 at the National Club Championships in Bo


At the close of business on the second day of competition, Western Area Clubs have a comfortable lead in their respective pools in both genders to qualify to the semi-finals.


In the men’s event young Stars pulled a fast one on Day One by winning both matches scheduled earning six points and thus securing a place in the semis with a match to spare.
The battle is now between Bai Biureh Warriors of Port Loko and Air Force from Bo. Both face-off on the Final Day of Pool Play on 24th January 2020.
In Pool B of the same gender, Super Six, who are Western Area Champions ended the day’s event with a comfortable win over potential trouble makers, Kamboi Spikers, with a three sets to Zero win thus bagging maximum points to top the Pool. Kamboi Spikers had to settle for second spot and a place in the semis.


The women’s event still have gaps in qualification though Young Stars, women, have the ascendancy with six points and a match to spare. In close second is Young unit from Bo closely followed by Wusum Spikers with four points apiece. These two would have to battle each other on the final day of pool play for a place in the semi-finals.
Pool B Women is a repeat of Pool B Men – Super Six are through on nine points followed by Kamboi Spikers on seven. Mark G Spikers and Bo Club would have to battle it for ranking.
The Kamboi/Super Six Match was such that Referee Delegate, Mohamed Benson Bawoh had to mount the First Referee’s Chair in a bid to maintain the integrity of the game and the
competition.
Sorie Kamara, Tournament Director, expressed satisfaction at the level of the competition and the comportment of both athletes and officials. ‘It was a very high risk amidst dire circumstances, but the premium is worth it as we see a pool of youngsters emerging from the competition and a new crop of club coaches and managers’, he stated.


Day three is a conclusion of pool play and placement matches to determine all positions for all teams. The Executive Board is of the conviction that every team is a winner and must therefore go home with a prize that should be earned on the court.
