As the campaign against rape, sexual and gender based violence continues to gain momentum, another peaceful protest is anticipated t take place in Freetown on the 16th July 2020.
In a response letter written to Men’s Up Initiative’ (the organisers of the ‘100 Man March’), the Sierra Leone Police has approved the request for Police Clearance to stage the said protest in Freetown.
The organisers are calling on rights activists, the MEDIA and the general public to join them on this peaceful protest as scheduled. The ‘100 Man March’ protest “is meant to raise awareness on issues relating to rape, sexual and gender biased violence (SGBV) which is currently on the increase in Sierra Leone. The march will happen in the following manners –
One group will process from Eastern Police (in the East of the City), through Goderich Street enroute to the Freetown Cotton Tree.
Another group will assemble at St. John (in the West of the City) enroute Sanders Street to the Freetown Cotton Tree. The street protest will commence at 9:30AM and ends at 1PM on the 16th July 2020.
Participants are encouraged to adhere to the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965, the Road Traffic Regulations of 2007 and the COVID-19 regulations.
