3. HEALTH AND SANITATION

One of the most important benefits the country, especially the Western Area, will benefit from the Infinitum Energy Group project is a cleaned and sanitised environment. The company 100 per cent relies on waste to produce electricity.

Infinitum’s job will, therefore, involve the collection of wastes from communities in the city of Freetown and its surroundings.

It is a clear fact that Freetown has been crippling with the challenge of waste collection and management. Now, with Infinitum Energy Group, in partnership with the local councils and private businesses, the issue of waste collection and management will be a thing of the past.

Many people have suffered the health hazards ofwastes being disposed across the City. Communities have also suffered from the outbreak of diseases like malaria, cholera, etc, due to lack of proper waste management.

When Infinitum commences operations, it will divert up to 365,000 tons of municipal waste from the dumpsites to its plant, and over 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide will be diverted from the atmosphere.

In his last presentation to the Sierra Leone Parliament in March, the Country Manager of Infinitum Energy Group, Yassin Kargbo, stated that wastes will become valuable products when the company starts operation. He said the company would buy these wastes from waste collectors, a new industry that will create jobs for over 1,000 Sierra Leoneans.

Another benefit will be the remediation of the Kingtom, Kissy, and Waterloo dumpsites in the Western Area. The company will completely clear these dumpsites and transport the wastes to its plant for the production of electricity. Once these dumpsites are cleared, the State will have empty spaces for other development programs.

Infinitum will support local partners will vehicles and machinery for the purposes of waste collection and transportation.

Freetown will be cleaned, sanitised, and safe again for everyone, while at the same time benefit 30 megawatts of clean energy (electricity) from Infinitum Energy Group.

Watch out for Part 3…
