Day 2 of the WAFU Zone A Female Tournament ended in Makeni City with thrilling results

The ongoing West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A female tournament has ended in Makeni City, Northern Sierra Leone, the tournament’s second venue, where Group B played its matches.

Day 2 opened with Mali vs The Gambia at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni, at exactly 2:00 PM. The Malians walloped the 10 Gambians players by a whopping 6 goals to nil, the biggest defeat so far in the tournament. Aguissa Diarra opened the scoreline in the 33rd minute from a penalty spot, after the Gambian defender Ami Jargu was sent off for a second yellow. Oumou Kone scored a brace before half time, with Aguissa Diarra scoring in the 49th and 57th minutes to complete a hat-trick. And Sendebu Sidibe rounded it up to 6 – 0 in the 70th minute. The Player of the Match award was won by Malian player Aguissa Diarra.

Guinea Bissau Female Football Team

The second match was between Liberia vs Guinea Bissau, with the Liberia taking all 3 points and 4 goals against helpless Bissaus. The scoreline was opened by Lucy Massaquio in the 13th minute, followed by Bernice Willie in the 43rd minute and Angeline Kieh converting a penalty kick in the 45+1 minute. Liberia’s second half substitute Lucy Kikeh complete the scoreline to 4 – 0 in the 72nd minute. The Player of the Match award went to the Liberian forward Pauline Abotsu.

Currently, Mali is leading Group B with 3 points and +6 goals; in second position is Liberia with 3 points and +4 goals; Guinea Bissau in 3rd with 0 points and -4 goals; and The Gambia in 4th position with 0 points and -6 goals.

The matches were witnessed by officials from SLFA, WAFU and CAF. The tournament continues tomorrow at the Bo Stadium where Group A will play their second matches.
