At a ceremony hosted this afternoon at the Orange Sierra Leone head office at Hill Station, Freetown, the Motor Insurance Card payment system was launched by Orange Money in partnership with the Sierra Leone Insurance Association (SLIA), Sierra Leone Insurance Commission (SLICOM), National Civil Registration Authority and others.

The motor insurance card payment system is a digitised means to aid seamless transactions, eliminating the prevailing challenges in the sector.

In his statement, the SLICOM Commissioner, Arthur Nathaniel Yaskey, reiterated the importance of this partnership.

“In today’s fast-paced world, convenient is key in financial transactions. This partnership will bridge the gap between traditional insurance and modern insurance through mobile money technology. This brings insurance in the palm of every motor driver. It is a call to action for every motor driver and everyone in the community to embrace the innovation. We, as the regulators of the insurance industry, are excited about this partnership,” he said.

Raymond Macauley from SLIA also emphasised the importance of the partnership, further noting that the process is seamless, convenient, and secured.

Kojo Asamoah from EFACTUM said, “This partnership between SLICOM, SLIA, EFACTUM, and Orange Money for motor insurance payments marks a new era of financial inclusion. With Orange Money, insurance becomes accessible, affordable, and manageable. This is a commitment we are making to revolutionalise motor insurance payments.”

Mohamed Massaquoi from NCRA speaks on the role his institution is playing in providing a unique and secured identification system through the National Identification Number (NIN), which will eliminate all forms of fraud and delays. “By linking insurance with NIN, we are empowering our people to take control of the business,” he said. He encourages every resident in Sierra Leone to obtain their national ID cards – for both citizens and non-citizens.

Ambassador Alie Bangura, National Secretary of ECOWAS Brown Card, speaks on Sierra Leone’s progress in the digitisation of the Ecowas Brown card and how they are integrating with financial institutions.

David Mansaray, CEO of Orange Money Sierra Leone, thanks all the insurance institutions and players that made the integration process possible.
He says that everyone can now pay for their motor insurance covers with ease and convenience and can now display their digital insurance stickers in their phones whenever and wherever they go.

The ceremony was climaxed with the official launch and product illustration, plus performances from Sierra Leone’s finest comedians, Kindo Armani and Comedian Robinho.
