Freetown | 22nd June 2020 | Vertex Media

Galaxies of superstars took the streets in central Freetown to call on the attention of the authorities to serve justice for a recent rape incident that was linked to the death of a 5 year old girl Kadija Madinatu Saccoh. The death of Kadija was reported over a week ago but an autopsy report released over the weekend showed that her death was as a result of rape. This news sparked protests on social media from different facets of society, condemning the act and calling for justice.

A protest was then organised online by few campaigners to take on the streets of Freetown on Monday 22nd June 2020 in solidarity with the victim. Earlier on Monday morning, the police arrested about 15 protesters, on the grounds that they did not have Police Clearance to process the streets, but other reports indicate that they were released hours later.

Top celebrities were seen protesting around the Cotton Tree, Law Court, Police Headquarters and CID areas, mostly dressed in black, holding placards containing messages against rape, and at the same time chanting ‘JUSTICE FOR KADIJA’, ‘SAY NO TO RAPE’, etc. Some of these celebrities include but not limited to the likes of Arkman, Rap Gee, K Man, Star Zee, DJ Kallox, Fantacee Wiz, Nasser Ayoub, Henrietta Mbawah, DJ Prezo, Colabo, Boss LA, Mystic and more other celebs, gender and child rights activists, the media and more.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice and the Police hierarchy, addressed the protesters and assured them of their commitment to speed up investigations and take further actions. Sources say a police report will be available by Wednesday 24th June 2020.

Speaking Vertex Media, Sierra Leone’s RnB legend Mohamed Saccoh otherwise known as K Man, expresses grief on the unfortunate incident that happened to his niece Kadija Saccoh, but says the protest was not only meant for the deceased Kadija but for the many other young girls who are being sexually assaulted across the country. “This is so sad, we are here to seek justice,” he added, stating that he was encouraged by the number of people who joined the campaign today.

The President of ‘All Stars Sierra Leone’ and rapper – Milton Koker aka Colabo also expressed disappointment on the spate of rape perpetrated against girls and women in the country. He called on the government to take stringent actions against the perpetrators.

The General Overseer of the Sierra Leone DJs Union (SLeDU) – DJ Kallox also told this media that it was prudent for Sierra Leoneans to take on the streets and speak out against rape and sexual assault against women and girls.

The protest was peaceful in its entirety, and the message were heard across. So far, no further notice was given by the organisers to stage another protest as they await the outcome of the investigations.
