Why Renewable Energy?

Globally, there’s an urgent need for countries to switch to renewable energy sources in a bid to save the planet from climate change and global warming, which has negatively affected our lives and wellbeing, especially in third-world countries.

Switching our reliance on fossil fuels to renewable energy sources that produce lower or no greenhouse gas emissions is critically important in tackling the climate crisis.
At the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) in 2022, an excerpt with the headline ‘Renewable Energy as a revitalising force for Africa’s energy mix and economies‘, reads:

As African countries advance their national development plans, there is pressure to phase out fossil fuels. Some policymakers argue, however, that they should use their fossil fuel reserves to support economic growth, just as developed nations have done in the industrial era. Given the vast wind and solar power potential in Africa, wind power and other renewables have the potential to meet Africa’s energy needs with the added benefit that it would decarbonize their energy mix and create jobs. Africa has the opportunity to explore its wind potential and accelerate RE deployment to support clean industrialisation.”

COP27

The call for renewable energy transition is ever-growing for nations to take actions to adapt to clean energy solutions, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, tidal, geothermal, and biomass (waste to energy). The world is facing unprecedented challenges to energy security, rising inflation, and a narrowing time window to achieve climate goals and limit dangerous global heating.

Locally, Sierra Leone is gradually heeding to the global call for renewable energy generation to curb greenhouse emissions. Renewable energy is a key pillar in the government’s agenda to increase the generation and distribution of electricity supply.

This position was recently been reiterated by the Presidential Press Secretary, Solomon Jamiru, in a press briefing, where he outlined the government’s position to increase the generation and distribution of electricity.

To place more premium on renewable energy, the President Julius Maada Bio has created a special office for Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security for the first. This important office is headed by Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, a former UNIDO boss and opposition leader.

How Is Infinitum Energy Group Supporting The Government In Achieving Its Renewable Energy Innitiative?

As a global leader in clean energy solutions, Infinitum Energy Group (iEg) is investing a whopping 180 million dollars in the energy sector, by transforming wastes to energy/electricity, thus providing 30 megawatts to the Western Area. Waste to energy is a clean or renewable energy solution to reduce greenhouse emissions and reduce the risk of global warming.

Infinitum Energy Group cares so much for the environment that they decided to invest in renewable energy projects across the world, rather in fossil fuels source of energy generation. The company is also here to support the Sierra Government in achieving its renewable energy drive, expand on energy generation and distribution.

This project will also support the government’s intention to provide over 500,000 jobs for its youthful population. IEg will provide over 1,000 jobs directly and indirectly. From the waste collection to transportation to final processing, Sierra Leoneans will be employed.

With iEg, waste management and sanitation will be key. The company, alongside the local councils and SMEs or youth groups, will collect domestic solid wastes from the communities and transport them to the iEg site. IEg also aims at clearing the Kingtom, Kissy, and Waterloo dumpsites, as the company largely depends on waste to generate energy.

Infinitum Energy Group is committed to boost Sierra Leone’s energy sector through renewable energy sources. Sanitation and waste management, and job creation are also key components of the company’s drive in supporting the government and the people of Sierra Leone.
