Two leading global football administrators – Fifa Secretary General Madam Fatma Samoura and Fifa Council Member Madam Isha Johansen are set to land in Sierra Leone this week, with special focus on meeting with inmates at the Women’s Correctional Centre.

The visit to the Women’s Correctional Center, is a humanitarian project borne by the former SLFA President Isha Johansen. Johansen was also, a few months ago, elected to sit on the Fifa Foundation Board, responsible for global humanitarian and infrastructural projects using football as a tool for change.

Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura has been a strong supporter of the need for reforms and Gender Empowerment for the young girls in the correctional centre. Both women in their private capacities have given financial support to the centre for the young women, Samoura last year, made a generous donation of five thousand dollars of which the inmates decided would go towards the building of a workshop for garments and craftswork.

The need for more legal representation for the women in the centres is an area Johansen and Samoura have also been advocating for through football.

The two Fifa Iron Ladies of football will be visiting the correctional centre this week with further donations by one of Senegalโ€™s most prestigious and oldest fashion house owners, Mr Mamadou Fall. Sewing Machines and other donations and presentations are expected to be handed over to the Centre for the benefit of the inmates.

The two-day visit will end with the visiting delegation being invited as Special Guests to the FASHION FOR CHANGE fund raising event, another innovative idea of Johansen using football and fashion to raise awareness and funds for more legal representation for the women at the Correctional Centres. The glamorous event will be covered nationally and internationally, with the incredible South African sports presenter Carol Tshabalala expected to jet into Freetown in the next few days.
