Sierra Queens Captain – Rashida sends out a solemn message after the match with their Liberian counterparts in Bo

Sierra Leone National Women’s Football Team (Sierra Queens’) captain Rashidatu Kamara has put out a message of courage and appreciation to the football family in Sierra Leone after their 3-1 defeat against their the Liberian counterparts on Monday 26th April 2021, at the Bo Mini Stadium. Sierra Leone and Liberia are participating in the maiden edition of the Mano River Union Football For Peace being hosted in Bo and Kenema Cities.

In her Facebook post, the Sierra Queens captain who also plays for World Girls FC in Liberia, took responsibility of their dreadful performance but believes the team can improve if ‘good construction and consistency’ is maintained within the squad. She apologised for their poor performance and also lauds the opportunity given to them to represent their country, as she writes on her Facebook page –

“In life everyday is a brand new opportunity. It is high time you realize it and make full use of it because, nobody knows when this heart will stop beating.
Even on your worst days never forget, the rainbow appears in the sky only after the grey clouds have done their job.
Playing soccer with your feet is one thing but playing soccer with your heart is another”

“Getting called up for the National Team is always a pleasure in every player’s dream to represent their respective countries. When you do, you aren’t only representing yourself & your family BUT your country as a whole.”
“A call up means more hard work,more dedication, focus so you can become a better version of yourself & it’s always key to become the best, especially in training. It’s an amazing experience. One must be willing to learn to become a better player. A very big thanks and appreciation to SLFA for such, I do believe with more of these we will get better. To our Coach and subsequent bodies we say thank you for your time and relentless efforts towards us.

Meanwhile, the Head Coach of Sierra Queens Abdulai Kaloga Bah also remarked after the game that there is room for improvement. He encouraged the FA to continue to engage the girls in frequent training and regular participation in leagues and competitions.

Two matches have already being played at the Bo Mini Stadium. The Sierra Leone U-15 Boys drew 1-1 with their Liberian counterparts on Saturday 24th April, while the Sierra Queens lose 3-1 on the 26th April. The final match will be between the Sierra Leone National Men’s team (Home Base) will play against their Liberian counterparts on the 28th April 2021 at the newly installed Kenema Artificial Turf, which will also mark the official opening ceremony of that pitch.
