As the Leone Stars B Team (National Homebase) prepares for the double CHAN Qualifiers against Cape Verde, the Team Manager, Alhaji Umar Bah has pledged the sum of $10,000 to the team, if they eliminate Cape Verde. He made this pronouncement at a press briefing held this morning at the SLFA headquarters in Freetown.
TM Bah also gives his general impression about the team preparation ahead of the first qualifying stage.
“I’m very impressed with the team’s preparation. We played 11 friendly matches, we won 10 and drew 1, that gives me some courage.”
“We need to make history. I’m here this morning to make a pronouncement that if you eliminate Cape Verde and proceed to the next, I will give you $10,000.”
The team (23 players) and officials, will depart the Lungi International Airport this evening for Marrakech, Morocco, where they will play their qualifying matches aganist Cape Verde on the 24th and 30th July, at the Grand Stade, Marrakech.
The Vice President 1 of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Mr. Harold Nat-Johnson also inspires the boys to victory.
“You are the feature of Sierra Leone. Prove yourself worthy of the coach’s selection.”
“On behalf of the Sierra Leone Football Association, I wish you a safe trip and an emphatic victory.”
Head Coach of the National Homebase Team (Leone Stars B), Francis Zappa Koroma is optimistic of getting the desired results by going beyond the qualifying stages.
“We have training for almost two months now, and it has be going quite well. We now have a prepared squad to represent Sierra Leone.”
“I’m just optimistic that we will eliminate Cape Verde. We are prepared to go beyond the qualifying stages and proceed to the tournament for the first time.”
Responding to questions about the non-inclusion of a popular striker, Musa Noah Kamara, the top scorer in the last home league (Sierra Leone Premier League), Coach Zappa explains that the player refused to fully participate in a two-month long training, and therefore deems it fit to give the opportunity to those who participated.
“Unfortunately, Musa is not with us. It’s a decision that I have made and I stand by that decision. No one is bigger than Sierra Leone. We have complied and honoured our invitations under difficult times. We have been in camp for about 2 months, in the rain and sun without him. It will bring a negative impact if Musa is included in the squad. He has been replaced by another player. We now have a team that is prepared to represent Sierra Leone.”
