M2 celebrating female excellence in music on her 10th album launch at Hotel 5-10 on February 28

Sierra Leone’s all-time best female musician, Mabinty Turay popularly known as M2 aka De Ladies’ Doctor, will be celebrating excellence in music on her 10th album launch at Hotel 5-10 in Kissy Freetown, on the 28th February 2020.

M2 is an afro pop and RnB singer who has achieved greatness in the field with couple of hit songs year in year out.

M2 started her music career with the JLC2 Group, short for – Justice, Leo, Chapter and M2. They released an album before she joined LMS (Lady F, M2 and Star Zee). She then decided to go solo, and she has so far recorded 10 studio albums as a solo artist, after previously released 2 albums with her former groups.

She rose to platinum on her first album – ‘Sweet Africa’ in 2006. The album contained mega hit songs and it was sold out across Sierra Leone and beyond. She kept flying to higher heights and was the recipient of the Best African Music Video award for her mega hit song ‘Sweet Africa’, held in Banjul, Gambia in 2007. M2 also won the AWOL Award for Best Female Artiste, and she has many other accolades in her music career. The other awards she has won include, Best Female Vocalist by Sierra Leone DJs award (SLeDU), Best Female Vocalist at Cassette Sellers Association (C.S.A), Best Female Vocalist at the People’s Choice Awards, Best African Song at Premier Media Awards, Best Female Vocalist at Sierra Leone Music Television (SLMTV) Awards, Best Female Album at the SLMTV Awards and more. She remain the most consistent female musician in Sierra Leone, releasing hit songs year in year out.

M2 is the first Sierra Leonean female artiste to have recorded 10 studio albums, and the second Sierra Leonean artiste to do so after Kao Denero. They include – ‘Sweet Africa’, ‘Special Comforter’, ‘We Must Survive’, ‘Me Life’, ‘Prove Am’, ‘Poor Nor Good’, ‘Inside Dis Party’, ‘Never Die’, ‘Yagba Dem’ and ‘Why Me Yone Different’.

Among her major hit songs are Sweet Africa, Special Comforter, Shabe Am Gee Dem, Inside Dis Party, Prove Am, Congosa, and more. She also did another hit song ‘Phone Light’ with Star Zee and others.

In 2010, host of entertainers – DJs, artists, MCs, and fans crowned M2 as the ‘Queen of SL Music’ in a ceremonial fashion.

She has always been a towering figure and commands authority over her craft. She’s an influencer musician and an advocate for the underprivileged. Her music has touched the lives of her followers and has immensely contributed to national development through her music projects across the country.

M2 is the founder and CEO of Queen’s Music, a record company she founded to promote Salone music. And her label has worked with top Sierra Leonean artistes over the years.

The entire entertainment industry in Sierra Leone will be celebrating M2 for her “excellence in the Sierra Leone entertainment industry, especially in music,” becoming the first Sierra Leonean to have recorded 10 studio albums. This august ceremony will take place at the Hotel 5-10 in Kissy, Eastern part of Freetown on the 28th February 2020. Top music icons, DJs, MCs, bloggers, musicians, corporate institutions, music fans and the general public will be in attendance to celebrate a platinum female act in Sierra Leone.
