The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has launched the first ever CAF D Licence Coaching Course for women at the Freetown Correctional Centre on Monday, 10th June, 2024. The coaching course is a CAF corporate social responsibility in collaboration with Football For Reform, an initiative pioneered by Fifa and CAF executive committee member Madam Isha Johansen.

The D License Football Coaching Course is an empowerment program designed to train 25 inmates in understanding grassroot football coaching. The 4-day training program will be delivered by CAF Elite Women’s Instructor Madam Majida Natanda from Uganda.

In November 2023, the course was disrupted by the security situation in the city of Freetown. CAF has, however, resumed the course following the restoration of peace and security.

FIFA Council Member and Founder of Football For Reform, Madam Isha Johansen, earmarked the groundbreaking and first-ever coaching for inmates in the world as ‘an empowerment and capacity building drive, using football as tool for positive social change’. Johansen emphasised the need to use the power of football for change.

Representing the Sierra Leone Football Association, the Technical Director Ibrahim Bah reiterated the FA’s commitment to support social programs from CAF and Football For Reform in the rehabilitation of inmates in correctional centres. His federation supported the course with equipment and technical support.

Head of Security of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service Colonel B.N Gogra thanked CAF, Football For Reform team, and the SLFA for supporting his institution in the aspect of reform initiatives, capacity building and empowerment. On behalf of the Deputy Director General, he extended his appreciation to the founder of Football For Reform Madam Isha Johansen for her continued support to the correctional centre.

The 4-day CAF D Licence Coaching Course will run from the 10th to the 13th of June, 2024.
