Fashion For Change is an initiative pioneered by the FIFA Council Member Madam Isha Johansen, who is using the power of football and fashion to empower women and girls in correctional centres in Sierra Leone. Madam Johansen and former FIFA General Secretary Madam Fatma Samoura spearheaded the construction of a skills training centre at the Freetown Women’s Correctional Centre. The centre has been equipped with training equipment like sewing machines and other materials. Through occasional training by designers at Fashion For Change, the inmates have now acquired skills in tailoring, bead making, etc. Some of their products were showcased at the 2023 London Fashion Week.

This incredible milestone in the Sierra Leone’s fashion industry was championed by the global football administrator Isha Johansen and her incredible team of designers. Her empowerment drive is one that has attracted the attention of many organisations across the world, including FIFA and CAF, who recently concluded a CAF D Licence Coaching Course for female inmates at the Freetown Correctional Centre.

At this year’s London Fashion Week, Fashion For Change designers, models and Pa Musa (headliner) will positively project Sierra Leone’s image, culture and identity to a global audience through the amazing creative designs.
