Gambia-1 Sierra Leone-2: Leone Stars remain unbeaten after 7th competitive match

The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone are now unbeaten in their last 7 consecutive matches (competitive matches) after a thrilling 2-1 victory against the Scorpions of The Gambia in El Jadida City, Morocco. After a 1-1 draw against South Sudan in the lined up international friendlies, Leone Stars are back to winning ways. Leone Stars were last defeated by Benin (1-0) in November 2019 in the AFCON Qualifiers.

The Gambia opened the scoreline in the 22nd minute from a penalty converted by Assan Ceesay. Leone Stars’ Kei Kamara who earlier missed a penalty and gave away another, equalized with a header in the 25th minute, before a brilliant strike from Saidu Fofanah in the 42nd minute, an assist from Sullay Kaikai.

Sierra Leone will play their last friendly match against Morocco on the 12th October 2021 in Casablanca, Morocco. These lined-up friendlies are part of Leone Stars preparation for the Cameroon 2021 AFCON finals.

Head Coach John Keister encourages his boys not to be complacent with today’s victory, but they must ensure they get it done against Morocco on Tuesday.

SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima who witnessed the match alongside the Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, Vice President of SLFA Harold Nat-Johnson, Executive Director of NSA Dr. Kenneth Brima, General Secretary of SLFA Christopher, etc continues to inspire the team to victory against Morocco.
