Breaking News: 1 stadium, 5 artificial turfs and a female football academy projects announced by SLFA President

The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Isha Johansen has pronounced several projects to be implemented this year across the country. The announcement was made on Saturday 22nd May 2021 at the Bintumani Conference Hall in Aberdeen Freetown.

The announced projects are as follows:

  1. The construction of a female football academy, with two coaster buses for female football
  2. The repairing of the Kono City Artificial Turf
  3. The construction and installation artificial turf, perimeter fence and flood lights at the SLFA Football Academy, SLFA Headquarters, Kingtom, Freetown
  4. The construction and installation of artificial turf, perimeter fence and flood lights at the Approved School Field in East of Freetown
  5. The construction and installation of artificial turf, perimeter fence and flood lights at the Bo Coronation Field, Bo City
  6. The construction and installation of artificial turf, perimeter fence and flood lights in Lungi Town, Portloko District
  7. The construction of an SLFA owned Stadium in Portloko City, Portloko District,
  8. The construction of a perimeter fence and the installation of flood lights at the Kenema Artificial Turf, which was recently installed by FIFA and SLFA.

According to Madam Johansen, all announced projects have been approved by FIFA and the Executive Committee of the FA. She emphasized that the FA is committed to the successful implementation of these projects. Adding that more projects will follow next.

The SLFA General Secretary Christopher Kamara also mentioned that the FA will require a 50 year lease from the respective Councils of the various venues in order to enable the successful implementation of these projects. According to him, funds are now available for the said projects. The SLFA Secretariat and Executive Committee have already done the necessary work for the attention of FIFA, who in turn will award the projects through international bidding. However, he maintained that the FA expect the same quality of the Kenema Artificial Turf installed by Edel Grass.
