SLFA Electoral Committee announces February 27th 2021 as new date for Elective Congress in Makeni

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Dr. Oluniyi Robin Coker has today 21st December 2020 announced 26th & 27th February 2021 as the new date for the SLFA Elective Congress to be held in Makeni City, Bombali District. In a ceremony held at Home Suites Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown, Dr. Coker told journalists that members of the Electoral Committee are well prepared and determined to hold a free and fair elections.

He further reminds the audience that the Elective Congress was initially scheduled to take place on the 17th April 2020, but was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19. But now that the government has started easing the COVID-19 restrictions, they are therefore obliged to hold the long overdue Congress in the next two months. He maintained that the process will be guided and governed by a viable roadmap, the SLFA Electoral Codes 2012, the SLFA Statutes 2019 and all other relevant statutes, regulations, by FIFA, CAF and SLFA.

Nominations for the respective elective positions of the FA are opened with immediate effect, and closes on the 8th January 2021. Among other requirements, candidates should be nominated by a member of SLFA, who is fully paid up and qualified. A nomination fee of Le 10 Million should be paid by Presidential candidates; Le 5 Million by Vice Presidential candidates; and Le 3 Million by Executive Committee members.

All candidates and electors must go through the FIFA, CAF and SLFA ‘Integrity Checks’ to be conducted by the Ethics Committee of the FA. After which, a final list of qualified candidates will be published 15 to the elections.

Making his statement, the General Secretary of SLFA Chris Kamara stated that members of the Electoral Committee are people of high standings in society, drawn from diverse professional fields. They were elected at the Extraordinary Congress held in Kenema City on February 31st and January 1st 2020. They include the following: Dr. Oluniyi Robin Coker (Chairman), Claudius Barmie Davies, Dr. Fatu Taqi, Ibrahim Sorie Yillah, and Mohamed Alusine Kabia.
