Burna Boy to hit Freetown on April 11 for a Musical Concert


The Nigerian megastar, singer, songwriter and performer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popular by his stage name ‘Burna Boy’ or ‘Oluwa’ will perform at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown Sierra Leone on the 11th April 2020 in a live Musical Concert. The 2019 BET award winner will come to Sierra Leone for the first time courtesy of ‘1Africa 1Vision’, run by Sierra Leonean music promoters and DJs. The leading organiser, a DJ vet and show promoter Egerton Shabba has confirmed the African act will perform in Sierra Leone. Burna has also announced the same on social media.

Burna Boy is a top Nigerian artiste who has got his breakthrough in 2012 when he released his single ‘Like to Party’. He has since released successful albums leading to his most sold out album in 2019 – ‘African Giant’, his fourth. He is known for his niche in afro beat, pop, reggae and dancehall music.

‘African Giant’ is the most streamed African album in 2019, with over 600 million streams. Amassing over 13 million listeners on Spotify, the most by an African artiste. The album was nominated as Best World Album in the 2020 Grammy Awards. He won the Best African Act at the 2019 MTV EMA awards, and won the Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards. Burna Boy went on to win the African Artiste of the Year awards at Soundcity MVP, AFRIMA and AFRIMMA Awards in 2019.

Burna has over 50 sold out shows in Europe and America on his African Giant Tour, and performed in over 200 cities across the world in 2019. He was given a plaque for selling out the SSE Wembley Arena in London during his African Giant Tour. Former US President Barack Obama listed Burna’s ‘Anybody’ among his favourite 50 songs for 2019.

This huge star will hit Freetown City for a thrilling Concert at the Siaka Stevens Stadium on April 11, 2020. A member of the organising team who also doubles as the President of the Sierra Leone DJs Union, Pilot CPO told Vertex Media that “everything is in place.”

Sources also disclosed that the 1Africa 1Vision team is in talks with another giant Nigerian artiste to join Burna Boy in Freetown. The organisers will make the announcement when a deal is reached. Local acts will also be contracted to perform at the concert. Music fans in Sierra Leone are in high anticipation to party with the the African Giant in Freetown.
