The Banegeh can Bridge which collapsed on Sunday 16th August, 2020 caused a serious cut off between Tonko Limba Chiefdom, Kambia district and Sella Limba Chiefdom, Karene district respectively.

The collapse of the bridge continues to expose Kambia-Tonko Limba road as being in a hopeless state and getting worse with each passing day especially in the rainy season.

The collapsed bridge is situated at Banegeh village in Tonko Limba which is the main route leading to the nearby chiefdoms of Tambakha and Sella Limba in Karene district.

The heavy downpour of rain last Sunday night is reported to have caused the collapse of the bridge which has made the road no go for vehicular and even bikes plying the route from Tonko Limba to other villages in the chiefdom and Karene district.

The road has been the cry of the people since Ex-President Koroma’s administration. The cut off has caused serious problem for the resident’ survival and business people accessing the Tambi Luma. Major economic activities of the surrounding villages and chiefdoms of the two districts have faced a devastating hit in this tough time of covid-19 in the country. School going pupils trying to access chiefdom headquarter towns to take both the BECE and WASSCE have been stranded.

The few public transportation taking the risk to go to the Tambi Luma, notwithstanding the deplorable state of the road, have no bye pass route now to access the other communities.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in the country, bid opening was done for construction of feeder roads countrywide and Tonko Limba was among the selected roads.

Stakeholders of Tonko Limba chiefdom are calling on government through Sierra Leone Road Authority (SLRA) for its swift intervention to salvage the suffering of the people.
