Women and girls across Freetown are beneficiaries of the ‘Christmas tokens’ from the Daughters of Sierra Leone this week. The organization dished out food items to women in deprived communities on Monday. The distribution took place Aberdeen Field (for the West) and in St. Michael Field, Kissy (for the East).

The food items include rice, onions and other items. For each of the two locations, about 500 people were supplied with these said items.

According to the Coordinator of the Daughters of Sierra Leone – Mahawa Ibilola Kallon, the motive behind the token is to celebrate the Christmas with the less privilege women in the society. “Our founder and CEO is so passionate to support women and girls in society,. This is a continuation of her previous work and support to women,” she said.

Witnessing the distribution at the Aberdeen Field, rapper and brand ambassador for Daughters of Sierra Leone – Milton Koker aka Colabo applauded the move to support women and girls during this challenging times. He also referenced the various skills training programs introduced by Daughters of Sierra Leone which gave women and girls the opportunity to be trained on vocational skills, business and entrepreneurship, etc.

DAUGHTERS OF SIERRA LEONE is an organization founded by a philanthropic diaspora Sierra Leonean, Rita Felleh Arah. They recently concluded series of skills training programs in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The drive was part of CEO Rita’s initiative and intentions to empower young Sierra Leoneans, especially women, to acquire skills in key business and vocational related areas, and how to monetize their knowledge. That’s a way of giving back to her country of birth after living abroad for almost 2 decades. Rita returned back to Sierra Leone to empower young Sierra Leoneans to be self reliant and contribute to national development.
