Reports reaching this media say that one Sierra Leonean player and five Benin players have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of final Group L AFCON Qualifying match in Freetown. As per CAF regulations, travelling teams are required to do a mandatory COVID-19 test on arrival.

It can be recalled that prior to Match Day 5 (on the 27th March 2021), two Benin players and one Nigerian players tested positive for COVID-19. These Benin cases in Freetown are believed to be connected to the 2 positive cases in Porto Novo last Saturday.

Both nations are in high anticipation for a spot in the 2021 Cameroon AFCON Qualifiers. Benin need at least a draw to make it through, while Sierra Leone needs 1-0 win or a 2 goal margin win if they concede to progress to the AFCON after 25 years. Both Sierra Leone and Benin have motivated their players with huge match bonus tokens if they qualify.

The match will play at 4pm at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown, on the 30th March 2021.

Meanwhile, the names of the affected players remain undisclosed to the public.
