Over the weekend, on December 16th and 17th, 2023, the membership of the Actors Guild of Sierra Leone converged in Bo City for its 3rd Annual National Congress. The Congress was convened to discuss pertinent issues bordering around the film industry, including how to monetize the film industry and make constitutional reforms.

The theme of this year’s Congress is ‘Building A Sustainable Future For Sierra Leonean Actors’.

Meaningful contributions were made on the main topic, which is the monetization of the film industry. Further actions would be taken to involve other stakeholders in the industry and partners. On the constitutional reforms, the adoption of the constitution will take place in 2026 in Makeni City on the next Annual National Congress. Before the next Congress, the Guild will work on modalities to ensure the successful monetization of the film industry.

The AGSL President, Abdulai Saidu Kamara, aka Glamour Raider, also noted that he will institute legal and formal structures in the industry to ensure that every actor works on a contract to avoid conflict or misunderstanding with filmmakers.

The Guild will also undertake several activities, like the Hang Night on September 12, and a Film Festival on April 26.

Awarding certificates of appreciation marked the climax of the Congress in Bo City. Actors present were honoured with special certificates by the Guild.
