Barmmy Boy’s ‘New Boats’ film bags an international award in the United States

Leading Sierra Leonean filmmaker, photographer and director, Lansana Mansaray, better known as Barmmy Boy, has earned a prestigious award for his recent documentary film ‘New Boats‘.

After being premiered across Africa and Europe, the NEW BOATS documentary film continues to attract global audiences with the latest international award, regarded for its role as an eye-opener for ‘pirates’ (foreign vessels) violating our waters.

The film (New Boats), is the recipient of the Coastal and Island Culture Award at the International Ocean Film Festival in San Francisco, United States of America.

The Director (Barmmy Boy shared this exciting news on social media on Sunday afternoon –

The New Boats presents an eye-opening look at the impact of International Industrialized fishing in West African waters and it’s disastrous effects on local communities. Their outreach efforts are focusing on building a local movement empowering locals to take ownership and protect not just their livelihoods, but a critical food source that this country depends on.

Barmmy Boy has been a top-notch filmmaker and a co-founder at Freetown Media Center (WeOwnTv), whose 2018 ebola documentary film ‘Survivors’ earned the Emmy and Peabody award nominations.

His works have been showcased at various international film festivals across the globe. Barmmy has earned himself a reputation and a hallmark in cutting-edge film production, especially documentaries.
