Sierra Leone’s leading music label – Kabaka Multimedia & Entertainment (KME) has marked 3 years with great achievements. KME has successfully become Sierra Leone’s top record label since it was established by Lawyer Abu Bakarr Turay aka Kabaka on the 28th April 2017. The label opened with 6 signed artists – Blesz, Rozzy, Kracktwist, Samza, Future K and Markmuday but ended up having more 10 acts at some point.

On its third anniversary, the CEO and founder Kabaka on Facebook celebrated all those who have contributed to making the label a great venture. They include serving and outgoing artists, promoters and bloggers, corporate institutions, management, fans, family and friends, and more. “We are all blessed to have made this journey. The KME journey.” ~ Said Kabaka

Despite starting with 6 artistes initially, the KME family later comprised of Kracktwist, Samza, Rozzy, Future K, Markmuday, Blesz, M.I.C, Ragga Spice, I-Tribe, Melinda, Lox P and yet to be announced Queenhajj. The label released its first single hit ‘Kam Ya’ in 2017, and many other hit songs. KME has been producing most of the biggest hit songs over the years. It is believed that KME has over 100 songs to date. The label has successfully transformed the lives and arts of most of the signed acts, putting them among the best in the country, with major awards won under the label. The CEO has exposed and empowered them to be self reliance and have thriving careers.

KME has become the biggest brand in the industry in the shortest period, making it a worthy label and a successful business venture. The brand was exported to other African countries like Nigeria, Ghana and more, where they built relationships with other entertainers. They were invited to perform at the ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ festival in Accra, Ghana. According to Kabaka, those meetings and connections inspired him to establish ‘ECOFEST’, an entertainment stage and platform for Africa. Ecofest has held 3 different events earlier hosted in Freetown and Banjul, with a landmark event held at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown, Sierra Leone in November 2019 that brought Diamond Platnumz, Basket Mouth and other top African entertainers on one stage.

In early 2019, Markmuday had to abruptly leave the family and established his own label ‘Slim Nation’, which sparked discussions and controversies on social media. Later that year, Blesz left on mutual understanding with the CEO and continues working on his ‘Blesz Way’ brand. The group, Kracktwist N Samza was the latest to part with KME, also with the blessings of the CEO, Kabaka. They set up a new business ‘KSI’.

The above defections of some of the major artistes of the label, created doubt among many fans as to whether the label will be at its best again. The CEO has however confirmed that there are major announcements to be made on newly signed artists and other developments, adding that “KME is here to stay.”

Happy Anniversary to KME!
