The country’s most decorated Disk Jockey – Ibrahim Kalokoh popularly known as DJ Kallox, who is also a founding member, past President and the current General Overseer of the Sierra Leone DJs Union (SLeDU), has won the 2019 SLAAM Best DJ award in the United States of America. He was nominated alongside top DJs in Sierra Leone, but the organisers couldn’t do otherwise rather than delivered the most coveted prize to the most outstanding spinner, the Obama of the East, Mega Kallox.
The Sierra Leone Association of Artists and Musicians (SLAAM) held its 5th Annual Achievement Awards in Maryland, USA on Saturday 27th July 2019. The SLAAM award is an international award that is designed to celebrate Sierra Leonean talents in every field of entertainment and media. The award has stood the test of time with respectable Sierra Leoneans like Giileh Kebbie Scholz and the VOA’s David Vandy as leaders.
DJ Kallox is the Entertainment Director of Citizens Radio and also the Station Manager of Eagle Radio. He has the biggest playing time for playing 100% Salone music on both Citizens Radio and Eagle Radio. On his daily ‘Salone Music Hot Spot’, he spends on average 4 hours on every Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at Citizens Radio, and 5 hours on Wednesdays at Eagle Radio, plus his iconic 6 hours ‘Tok Bot Salone Music’ program on Citizens Radio every Sundays. Put together, DJ Kallox spends over 27 hours in a week playing Salone music in addition to his usual artists promotions and management.
Kallox has been listed as DJ of the Month for 5 consecutive months (January 2019 to May 2019) in the monthly SALONE TOP 10 MUSIC chart published by Vertex Media in partnership with key radio stations across Sierra Leone.
His craft, his professionalism and dedication has earned him more honours more any other DJ in the last two years. He is the recipient of major awards and honours across country, some of them include the 2018 NEA Best Radio DJ, the 2018 New Skool Best Radio DJ, the Queennak Foundation 2018 Media Personality Honorary Award, the Original Top Best Squad (TBS) 2019 Best Promoter Honorary Award, Icons of the East 2019 Best DJ Award, and the latest 2019 SLAAM award.
He remains the Crème de la crème in the spinning industry, with massive wealth of experience and professionalism, spanning over 12 years, from SLBS Radio (now SLBC radio), to Citizens Radio, to Eagle FM. DJ Kallox has just completed a nationwide tour to revamp SLeDU, having visited major towns and cities across Sierra Leone.
