The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in the indefinite postponement of yet another much-anticipated music-industry event: the 256 HipHop Awards

The 2020 โ€˜256 HipHop Awardsโ€™ arenโ€™t the first awards ceremony to be affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Given our concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided that we will not be staging the 2nd Annual 256 HipHop Awards at Uganda National Cultural Centre (National Theatre) this coming May 15th,โ€™ We are working on some interesting alternative ideas for how to best organise the event later this year and will share more details in the weeks ahead. โ€˜ The Kulture 256 President and CEO Ssebunya Edgar announced

Moreover, a new date for the 256 HipHop Awards hasnโ€™t been established, but The Konnected Foundation INC and The Kulture 256 โ€œwill provide more information and relevant updates as they become available.โ€

The cited statement also indicates that refunds are being issued to ticketholders presently (for those who wish to), and that the health and wellbeing of โ€œguests, employees, artists, and partners is our [256 Hiphop Awards] main priority.โ€ The awards show had been set to broadcast live on STV Uganda, and itโ€™s anticipated that the rescheduled ceremony will appear on the network.

Awardsโ€™ voting process will not happen as scheduled for April 1st. We will be announcing the new dates on our social media platforms as the world gets together to conquer the pandemic.

โ€˜These were extremely difficult decisions to make, but at the end of the day the health and safety of our event attendees and staff must remain our paramount concern,โ€™ The Konnected Foundation INC president and CEO Kevan Glover said.

โ€œThis decision involved many partners, stakeholders and the industry who we have been in constant conversations with over the past several days as the situation has developed,โ€

โ€œWe are devastated to postpone this national celebration of music, but at this time of global uncertainty, the health, safety, and well-being of all Ugandans and Internationals who were to attend the event must stand at the forefront of any decisions that impact our communities,โ€

โ€œWe know this is the right decision based on the information we currently have and are continuing to receive. The situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve rapidly and we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.

โ€œWe salute and appreciate all the 2020 โ€˜256 HipHop Awards nominees and Fans. The Kulture 256 and The Konnected Foundation INC will continue to explore options to coordinate an alternative date for the awards.
