Many a times, we have been calling out young Sierra Leoneans for being lazy and an unproductive. We have been calling out our youth for not being business minded. This perspective is changing, our young people are getting their hands on entrepreneurship, competing with their foreign counterparts.
One of such young entrepreneurs is Mustapha Haji Mansaray, a vibrant and creative young Sierra Leonean with the expertise and proficiency in Gypsum Board design, supply and installation. He is one of the few Sierra Leoneans who is experienced in this modern day type of ceiling and interior designs.
Modern houses, business places, are in high demand of gypsum board design and installation. It has replaced the old fashioned way of ceiling. This business was predominantly in the hands of foreigners over the years, but young Sierra Leoneans like Haji, have ventured into this business with the competence and experience in the job.
This young Sierra Leonean is now in a position to create jobs and trainings for more 20 Sierra Leoneans by the end of the year.
His company HAJI’S GYPSUM BOARD AND TILING DESIGN does designs and installations of Gypsum Board, Tiles, Mastic, Painting, PVC, etc. He has a team and experience and dedicated young Sierra Leoneans.
Mustapha Haji decided to learn the arts of designs and installation of gypsum board from experienced people in the business, plus few online tutorials. He was motivated by a friend, who came to install the board in their house.
He therefore later decided to partner with this friend who has had long standing experience in the business. So far, they have done several amazing installations to private homes, offices and business places.
On the challenges they face, Mustapha Haji explains that the cost of materials that keep rising everyday is a major challenge they face in the market. He also mentioned that the lack of trust from many Sierra Leoneans on Sierra Leonean businesses in also a serious challenge.
“The objective is to get people to believe in us (Sierra Leoneans). Our foreign have earned the trust from many Sierra Leoneans, so they have the advantage over us.”
“Many people keep Sierra Leoneans are dishonest people, which is not always the case.”
“We want to bring back the sanity and trust to our brothers and sisters, and let everyone know that Sierra Leoneans are trustworthy and capable of delivering the quality services foreigners are hired to do. We can even do it better. It’s just about trust.”
“Many Sierra Leoneans are with the perception that our nationals cannot deliver, so they instead look out for foreigners to do the job.”
“I want to restore that trust, that we, Sierra Leoneans can do the job. We are more capable to deliver, we are just asking everyone to patronize us and see the amazing results.”
