“U can’t choose playlist for any DJ in the world,” former DJs President – CPO laments on proposed national playlist

Former President of the Sierra Leone DJs Union (SLeDU) – Pilot CPO has in his Facebook post commented on the proposed ‘National Playlist’ to be created by the Office of the Special Envoy on Investment and Entertainment, otherwise referred to as Office of the Entertainment Ambassador headed by popular rapper Kao Denero. In what he referred to as an advice to the Ambassador, CPO craved on the indulgence of Kao Denero to continue his initial campaign for the National Telecommunications Company (NATCOM) to drop down on expensive internet tariffs of the various mobile companies.

He went on to say that his office lack the power or authority to regulate or dictate what a radio station in Sierra Leone must play.

“Real vybes Ambassador Kao ah member wae the entertainment Industry bin go visit president en first lady na lodge u raise very good point that Natcom for try mek the telecommunications company dem put den tariff down so people go able subscribe en follow Salone music which I think we need more than anything right now ah believe say na that for be u focus now other than creating a national playlist wae u power limited to regulating radio station or night club or entertainment sport what to play u can’t chose playlist for any DJ in the world a real DJ will always create his or her play list just an advise”

Since the Entertainment Ambassador recently announced his Board’s intention to distribute 30 verified songs in a National Playlist to radio stations and nightclubs, many industry professionals like Tamba B, CPO and others have been critical of this decision. Concerns are raised on the selection process and whether the Board will be paying the radio stations and nightclubs for playing time. But Kao Denero has insisted that the initiative to start a campaign that will beat competitions from foreign music from dominating our sounds.
