COVID-19 kills Sierra Leone’s music vet Abou Whyte in the United States

Popular Sierra Leonean traditional musician and philanthropist who lived in the United States of America has recently died of the Coronavirus disease, according to Premier News. Abou Whyte died on the 12 April 2020 in New Jersey, USA at age 76.

He was a music expert and a lead vocalist of the Merry-Go Jazz Band in 1964. He later joined the Orchestra Muyei Power Dance Band, formed in Sierra Leone by music promoter Abu Sillah in 1971 to entertain and enlighten people about the cultural heritage of Sierra Leone.

According to Premier News Newspaper, Abou Whyte was the leading vocalist on popular songs like ‘Good Morning Sierra Leone’, ‘Jakitomboi’, ‘Togetherness’, ‘Yamba Sowe’, ‘Wali Bena’, and more.

Abou Whyte can be remembered for his ‘Tabule’ song and his various Hunting songs originated from the Fourah Bay community in Freetown.
